Client Context And Challenges
Generics and Biosimilar arm of a global pharmaceutical player has been running an efficiency program globally for a few years but struggled to make significant progress in one of their biggest sites in Europe.
The client decided to bring in external support to provide more transparency to the local situation and to create an efficiency program with recurring cost savings targets
We were selected due to our experience in life sciences and our ability to work hand-in-hand with clients in an operational setting
Our Approach
Transparency: Established a clear cost baseline that is easy to compare across sites and within industry. Pulled together a prioritised set of areas to focus on.
Involvement: Set-up a series of working sessions for each critical business unit and also across business units to collectively identify savings opportunities, conditions required for sustained impact and implementation requirements
Ownership: Established a program where each efficiency idea was owned by a leader on site and supported by us
Impact: Built a business case for each efficiency initiative with full financial impact
Tracking: Built a robust tracking methodology that was handed over to the client for all future efficiency efforts

Generated more than 120 efficiency opportunities with wide-range involvements from employees on site
Prioritised for impact and ease of implementation & short-listed 18 for full business case
Achieved 13% reduction in baseline cost-base; and realised 6% within the year
